BUSINESS IMAGING SYSTEMS DONATES MICROFILM PRODUCTS AND
SERVICES TO HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN 115-YEAR-OLD TOWN
Canon Micrographics Equipment Preserves Edmond's Historical Documents
EDMOND, Okla., Aug. 24, 2004 -
Business Imaging Systems, Inc., a provider of document management systems, software and consulting services, today announced that it is donating a new Canon MS-500 microfilm scanner, Canon Fileprint 400 printer, and related products and services to The Edmond Historical Society and Museum. Business Imaging Systems has been located in the Oklahoma City area since its founding in 1986. The company's headquarters have been based in the City of Edmond since early 2003. They also have offices in Tulsa and Dallas.
"We believe very strongly in a sense of community and culture. At Business Imaging Systems, we have created a unified and comfortable family-like atmosphere for our more than 65 employees," said David Annis, vice president and chief technology officer. "We are also committed to doing our part to preserve and maintain value for the betterment and enjoyment of our local community, where many of our employees live, work and play. Our donation to The Edmond Historical Society is firmly rooted in that commitment."
The Edmond Historical Society maintains historical information and records for Edmond, Okla., a suburb of Oklahoma City that began as a water and coaling station for steam engines when the Santa Fe Railroad was built into Indian Territory in 1887. Among the many preserved documents are editions of The Edmond Sun. Founded on July 18, 1889 - three months after the town was officially established - The Edmond Sun has the distinction of being the oldest continuous newspaper in Oklahoma, dating back to Oklahoma Territorial days.
Business Imaging Systems will contribute to the document preservation efforts of The Edmond Historical Society by providing products and services that enhance their current microfilm capabilities. Business Imaging Systems' service team, headed by John Bailey, will repair the organization's existing overhead projection microfilm reader. As a replacement to The Edmond Historical Society's existing reader printer, Business Imaging Systems will also be providing a new Canon MS-500 digital microfilm scanner and Canon Fileprint 400 for high resolution printing. Installation and training services, as well as a one-year onsite premium maintenance contract, will also be donated by the company.
"We are excited about the significant and unique donation being made by Business Imaging Systems, and pleased that they support us in our efforts to preserve historical records for many generations of Edmond residents," said Brenda Granger, executive director for The Edmond Historical Society and Museum. "The new reader printer will grant researchers access to an abundance of information that can only be found on microfilm, in our case namely past issues of The Edmond Sun. The information in the historical newspapers is of great value, and this is why the microfilm is so important to our research library."
The Edmond Historical Society houses a research library containing over 5,000 books and periodicals, microfilm of The Edmond Sun and a genealogical computer center, among many other research materials. A school exhibit houses information about the first public schoolhouse in Oklahoma Territory dating back to 1889 - another Edmond "first." Popular areas of local history in the library include Edmond High School and University of Central Oklahoma annuals, Edmond city directories and an Edmond author section. Among other research materials, the center offers CDs on various subjects, census, family tree maker, Dawes Final Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes, marriages and Edmond Grace Lawn Cemetery records.
"It is only with the generous support of our community and volunteers that we have been able to continue our service to Edmond for more than 20 years. The donation by Business Imaging Systems will enable us to continue preserving the history of Edmond using today's most technologically-advanced micrographics equipment," said Granger.
The Edmond Historical Society is not the first local organization to which Business Imaging Systems has made generous donations. For example, every year, its employees team with the Oklahoma City chapter of ARMA - the Association of Records Managers and Administrators - to provide Christmas gifts for the children at the local Battered Women's Shelter.
While Business Imaging Systems works with businesses, universities and government agencies throughout the nation, their client roster includes many local organizations, including the Oklahoma County Court Clerk, Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Cleveland County Treasurer, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and UICI, among others.
